SUMMARY:Movie Screening - To Right a Wrong: The Story of Ballard Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Santa Monica Mountains Fund is hosting an exclusive screening of To Right a Wrong: The Story of Ballard Mountain. \n\n \n\nThe documentary explores the story of John Ballard\, the first Black homesteader in the Santa Monica Mountains. The documentary also follows the journey of local Agoura Hills residents Leah and Paul Culberg who were deeply disturbed by the racial epithet that the mountain associated with the site of Ballard's residence as named. Determined to rectify this injustice\, they spearheaded efforts to rename it Ballard Mountain\, celebrating the Ballard family's resilience\, community engagement\, and dedication to environmental conservation.\n\n \n\nAdditionally\, Ryan Ballard\, a descendant of John Ballard\, will be present\, alongside a panel Patty Colman\, professor of history at Moorpark College and more.\n\n \n\nTo RSVP\, please visit https://bit.ly/ballardfilm\n\n \n\nDate: June 11\, 2024\n\nTime: 6 p.m. 8 p.m.\n\nLocation: 1 Baxter Way\, Westlake Village\, CA\, 91362\n\nParking: on-site and complimentary\n\n \n\nAbout Santa Monica Mountains Fund\n\nSanta Monica Mountains Fund was established in 1988 to support education and the protection of resources in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Originally incorporated as the Santa Monica Mountains Parklands Association\, the organization was formed by concerned citizens to represent the interests of the public in the development of parklands and recreation opportunities within the mountains.\n\n\n\nSAMO Fund works to protect and encourage appreciation and understanding of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. We achieve this by supporting National Park Service efforts in education\, science\, research\, improved facilities\, citizen engagement\, stewardship and philanthropy.\n\n\n\nIt is the official non-profit supporting the National Park Service (NPS) in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. As such\, the Fund works closely with NPS management to allocate funds\, resources and our own staff time to support scientific research\, trails and ecological maintenance\, restoration projects and education for elementary through college students.\n\n\n\nFor more information\, visit www.samofund.org
