  • What is a Volunteer?

The Cambridge Dictionary’s definition is “A person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it”.

What are the Benefits of Volunteering?

According to Volunteer.gov, “Volunteers contribute their time and talent and are an essential part of helping organizations achieve their missions. The greatest benefits to volunteering include the chance to be a part of the team that provide important and meaningful services to the public, the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, and the chance to learn something new or practice skills.”

For the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce, our foundation is made up of volunteers who are amazing and for whom we are very grateful. We recognize those that give their time and energy to our Chamber.

    Congratulations to Scott Trujillo!

"Over the last 70 years, the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce has had thousands of volunteers – helping in every way possible – chairing a committee, contributing their expertise at a workshop, curating items for the 70th Anniversary celebration, providing free legal advice on Law Day, or traveling around town welcoming new businesses to the city.

The Chamber is here today because of its volunteers, who strengthen the business community, support one another, and celebrate everything this extraordinary city has to offer.

The Chamber staff sees it every day: the phone calls offering help with events, late-night emails promising to assist with setup, and the thoughtful text messages sharing ideas for new workshops.

This… is the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce. This… is who we are. A group of creative, dedicated, helpful, and caring people.

This past year, one person, especially shined in this capacity. Mr. Scott Trujillo. The Assistant City Manager at the City of Calabasas. He is the main Chamber Liaison with the City.

Scott is a Chamber guy. He was very involved with the Indio Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador and a Board Member before moving here. He knows the mission, understands our non-profit organization, and offers support whenever he can.

The Chamber and the City have a quarterly meeting to share insights and updates. The first thing Scott does at each meeting, is he opens his tablet and says, “How can we help you?”.

And we have taken him up on that offer many times.

When we experienced connectivity issues on the plaza during the wine tasting and couldn’t process payments the year before, the issue was mentioned to Scott during one of our meetings. He said, “We’ll look into it.”

The very next day, he had his tech team on-site testing signals and installing antennas. They then showed up the day of the wine tasting to make sure everything was in good working order. Since then, the event has had no connectivity issues.

Scott has attended all the Chamber’s signature events and has been a regular presence at the networking events, where he shares thoughtful testimonials about business members, or offers up a fun fact!

One of the most important aspects of Chamber membership is active involvement and advocacy, and Scott exemplifies both. He consistently encourages colleagues to attend Chamber events and be a part of our community.

Service is clearly part of Scott’s DNA. He is a 20-year Rotarian, and the founder of the nonprofit - Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking.

In a short amount of time, Scott has done a lot for our organization. He takes great interest in the Chamber’s success, but most importantly, he shows up – the most impactful action by any volunteer.

To recognize his outstanding dedication and service, the Chamber presented its 3rd Annual Volunteer of the Year award to Scott Trujillo!"
