SAMO Fund Coloring Book Launch Party & Ice Cream Social

SAMO Fund is excited to announce the release of The Santa Monica Mountains Fund Coloring Book, written by Sara Nelson and illustrated by Syndey Kysar. The book is inspired by Dan and Connie Burkhardt and was facilitated by National Park Service (NPS) Ranger Preston DeCorte.

Our Ice Cream Social is your chance to grab an advanced copy while quantities last. The coloring book launch will feature an early bird kid’s coloring contest for a chance to win a prize, informational sessions for educators to learn more about the programs offered at SAMO Fund and of course, delicious ice cream to help you beat the heat!

About the Santa Monica Mountains Coloring Book

The coloring book follows Sami, a California red-legged frog as he teaches readers about the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA), the largest urban national park in the world and features some of the best remaining examples of the Mediterranean biome, a land type that is among the rarest on earth.

The book is intended for kids from pre-K to grade five, and covers topics about the SMMNRA trails and ranches, native plants and animals, fire ecology, the Chumash and Gabrielino/Tongva people, The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, Native Plant Nursery, SAMO Fund programs and more through interactive activities like mazes and word searches.

The coloring book will be distributed to schools across the LA and Ventura counties, as well as at special events for the SMMNRA. It is available in both English and Spanish for mono-and-bilingual students.
